The Gun

The Gun

The Gun has been played on NTS shows including Black Impulse, with Sunshine first played on 16 August 2014.

(for the Scottish rock band known just as 'Gun', please see Gun)

The Gun (1968-1969) was a short-lived hard rock group from England that had a top ten hit with "Race With the Devil" in 1968. Formed by brothers Paul and Adrian Curtis (a.k.a Paul Gurvitz and Adrian Gurvitz) alongside Louis Farrell, their first album on Epic was a heavy, psychedelic affair with orchestral touches. Their second album, Gunsight, already showed signs of the sound that made the Gurvitz brothers later famous.

Still, the power trio never managed to quite sustain the mainstream success that they had experienced with "Race With the Devil", particularly since they had to compete against other heavy metal progenitors such as Cream, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin at the time. Though earning major respect and spreading their influence to their fellow musicians, the band's days were numbered. After The Gun folded in 1969, the Gurvitz brothers formed Three Man Army and Baker Gurvitz Army. Other projects of note include providing important help to Graeme Edge of The Moody Blues with two solo albums and Adrian Gurvitz recording several personal releases, including the top 10 hit "Classic" in 1982.
