Ichiro Nitta

Ichiro Nitta has been played on NTS in shows including The NTS Breakfast Show w/ Zakia, featured first on 8 July 2022. Songs played include Shadow Rhythm.

Ichiro Nitta (新田一郎) was born on May 2, 1954 in Nara, Japan and is a trumpeter, composer, and producer who contributed greatly to the kayokyoku genre of music. He was first a part of the group SPECTRUM (スペクトラム), a Japanese fusion band lasting from 1979-1981, where he played trumpet with Hatsumi Shibata, Yukari Ito, and Marlene on vocals accompanied by other musicians. He released his debut solo album “Cool ga Atsui” (新田一郎・一番・クールが熱い) in June 1982 with city pop style tracks supported by heavy instrumentals. Nitta wrote, composed, and produced his songs while Yasuhito Miyashita (宮下康仁), who was also a lyricist for SPECTRUM, provided vocals. His songs feature classic city pop styles and some are considered Japanese disco classics. He continued to make and release his music during the 80’s and even composed the soundtracks for a few movies like Dallos (1983), The Supergal (1986), Sukeban Deka (1987), Purple Eyes in the Dark (1987), Sukeban Deka: Kazame Sanshimai no Gyukushu (1988), and Sakigake!! Otokojuku Movie (1988). He also composed soundtracks for some TV series like the Sukeban Deka series (1985) and Nana the Supergirl (1983). Ichiro worked with various legendary city pop artists like Tatsuro Yamashita (山下達郎) and his band, Takayuki Hijikata (土方隆行) from the group MARIAH, Hideo Yamaki (山木秀夫), and others to make many joint performances. Ichiro also appears on 2 tracks from the album TOKYO 1980’s Victor Edition by DJ NOTOYA which is highly acclaimed for its focus on 80’s funk, boogie, and disco from Japan.
