Steve Peters (b. 1959 in San Rafael, California, USA) makes music and sound using environmental field recordings, acoustic instruments, electronics, amplified natural/found objects, voice, and spoken text. He has made work for dance, theater, radio, film/video, recordings, concerts, galleries/museums, and public places. Since the late 1990s his main focus has been on site-specific sound installations. He retired from solo performing in 2002, but still occasionally performs with the Seattle Phonographers Union, a collective that improvises live with unprocessed field recordings. Since 1989 he has been the Director of Nonsequitur, a non-profit organization producing recordings and concerts of experimental music and sound art.
