A monthly transmission of displaced rock n roll, exotic punk and early electronics, paying favor to all things primitive and sleazy. LA visual artist Amanda Siegel delves into the international underground, offering a thorough sonic survey of protopunk, hard rock, synthpunk, powerpop, psych, industrial and more.

Welcome to LXXXVIII – the ninth Actress album to be created by Darren Cunningham and the very first presentation of Actress’ voyage into luxury sonics. A lifetime in the making, LXXXVIII is the culmination of 25 years’ honing mind-shorting, soul-igniting audio infusions for dance floors, rave dens, festivals, and concert hall, and the inaugural vessel for Actress’ cruise into novel strata of artistic influence: the executive suites, yacht decks and private jets of our planet’s ultimate power players.

Shampoo Boy

Shampoo Boy

Shampoo Boy has been played on NTS shows including Shape, with Fall first played on 10 October 2013.

A trio featuring Editions Mego boss Peter Rehberg, Christian Schachinger and Christina Nemec. It makes perfect sense that Blackest Ever Black should make a comfortable home for Rehberg and his two collaborators. With Rehberg as usual taking control of the electronic side of things, Schachinger and Nemec add guitar and bass respectively, and the three musicians emerge with a truly harrowing sound.

It wouldn’t be improper to cite KTL as a reference point as the two bands share more than merely a member, but Shampoo Boy’s crushing, eardrum-baiting feedback and noise might be even more extreme, and even more symphonic. Perfectly in keeping with Blackest Ever Black’s focus on the grimmer side of contemporary music, Shampoo Boy look set to join Raime and Prurient as low-light listening for those moments when the hum of your broken radiator simply won’t do.
