Sam Burton is a Palestinian-American songwriter born and raised in Salt Lake City, now based in Los Angeles.
Burton taught himself to play guitar as a teenager, sneaking practice sessions on his stepfather's off-limits guitar. Inspired by the Beach Boys and Velvet Underground, he played in a shoegaze band before relocating to Los Angeles and developing a more acoustic folk-based approach that included ambient, sometimes psychedelic textures and introspective lyricism.
He rose through the D.I.Y. cassette scene, releasing homemade music on the Chthonic label. After signing with Tompkins Square, the San Francisco label issued a pair of limited-edition 7" singles, followed in late 2020 by Burton's debut album, I Can Go with You, which was produced by Jarvis Taveniere (Real Estate, Purple Mountains).
