The Apagya Show Band

The Apagya Show Band

The Apagya Show Band has been played on NTS in shows including SNO, featured first on 30 November 2021. Songs played include Mumunde and Kwaku Ananse.

The Apagya Show band was formed by Ebo Taylor and Ambolley after they both left the seminal emsemble, the Uhuru Dance Band, in the early 70s. Each artist was interested in experimenting outside of the traditional Ghanainan highlife format. It’s no wonder then, that after the project ended each went on to make ground-breaking funk-infused material.

Apagya only produced a handful of singles for the Essiebons label before disbanding, but these singles definitely foreshowed the revolutionary sounds that were to come from two of Ghana’s funkiest musicians.
