Steven Randall "Randy" Jackson (born October 29, 1961 in Gary, Indiana) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and dancer. Randy & The Gypsys was the band he formed and led, comprised of Pepe Tynes, Khris Kellow (backing musician for "The System" and former member of "Attitude"), Cece Worrall, Robert K. "Baba" Burns, Jara & Jeff Harris (later members of "Slapbak")and Cornelius Mims, and was formed gradually during the production of their album Randy & The Gypsys, released in 1989. The project started in 1987 when Randy signed with A&M Records. The label couldn't promote them the way they expected, since only one album could be promoted at a time, it being his sister Janet Jackson's blockbuster Rhythm Nation 1814, released only the month before. The band split shortly after. His career began in late 1971 backing his older brothers, The Jackson 5 as a percussionist, then becoming an official member in 1975 when the band (now called The Jacksons) moved from Motown to CBS Records. In addition to percussion, Randy contributed to the group as a multi-talented instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, co-writing songs such as "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" and sharing lead vocals on "Can You Feel It", both of those among their biggest hits. In recent decades he has works as a business manager within his family. Currently, he is co-partnering with Janet at her independent label Rhythm Nation Records.
