Cerrero

Cerrero

Cerrero has been played on NTS in shows including The Spaces In Between w/ John Gómez, featured first on 21 March 2017. Songs played include Pedacito de Esperanza (Llorona Records) and Sutileza Ft Coladera.

It is enough to listen to it for a few seconds to become abstracted and a few more to contemplate a totally different landscape in which it is natural to feel the limbs disconnected from the body, totally free, where it feels obligatory to inhale large quantities of air through the nose, hold it and let it escape slowly through the mouth.

The rest is a meditative ritual where percussions, gusts of wind and a matronly voice of the earth absorbs you in the midst of echoes, reverberations and delays. Sonically it is a dub, a different one from the Jamaican one, one that is painted with the colours of the flag, of the land, this land, this countryside, these prairies, these animals, this fire, this beat: a Creole dub.

Cerrero is true to its meaning: raw and untamed. Hypnotic from the root, attractive and provoking a rush that runs through the body, as if an ancestral mysticism were taking over our consciousness.

The person behind this project is Diego Gómez, music producer, DJ, inveterate music lover and collector of traditional Colombian and Caribbean music.

He recently celebrated 10 years working with Llorona Records, the flagship label of new Colombian music, where he has been in charge of reviving the tradition of Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto since their last albums, as well as his alternative project with Dub de Gaita, which he worked on hand in hand with Adrian Sherwood, English producer and founder of the On-U Sound label.

In his more than 15 years of work he has also had the opportunity to work hand in hand with the legendary Mad Professor, Richard Blair himself and artists such as Elkin Robinson, a gem of music made in Providencia, Boom Full Meke, Tamborito Nuquí and Mister Gomes in Bombay.

He is passionate about getting the best out of every sound, of every project that falls into his hands and that he has taken care to leave signed as an obligatory document for this generation and for posterity.
