Builders is a New Zealand music group around Bill Direen who produced a string of self-recorded 7-inch vinyl releases between 1980 and 1982 leading to Beatin Hearts, the first studio-album from fledgling New Zealand independent record label 'Flying Nun Records'.

The Christchurch musician and songwriter's art and sound was at the core of one of the most sustained bodies of quality New Zealand indie music in the early to mid-1980s. A prolific composer, Direen's intellect and energy took in and spun out poetry, film, theatre and literature.

Builders is a Los Angeles based indie/alt band. It consists of members Sawyer Fox (Vocals, Guitars, Keys) and Josh Pearlman (Drums). In February 2013 they released their debut EP, Makeshift Seams after recording most of the music in Fox's bedroom.

Taking from the experience they gained recording their EP themselves, they took it another step further by taking on the task of recording and mixing their debut LP themselves in a small, dark apartment in San Francisco.

In August of 2014, they finally were able to share their work as they released their album "New Lungs". Beginning July of 2015, the band relocated to their home town of Los Angeles and began work on their second LP. In April, 2016 they announced the release of "When the Light's Gone", their second album, for July 19, 2016.
