He is also a member of the band Groovy Tuesday, a band that covers classic songs from such artists as The Beatles, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Grass Roots and others. In the 80s, Holmes performed as a drummer with NYC-area band AM/FM, performing original rock/pop music and he has toured as the drummer for The Shirelles.

Micheal Holmes is the guitarist of the British progressive rock band IQ. In 2017 he released his first solo-album, the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of the movie Subterranea. This movie and the soundtrack are based on the double cd Subterranea by his band IQ, which was released in 1997.
